The Information Centre
This is a friendly, relaxed place where everyone is welcome to call in for a drink and a chat. There is a wide range of information available to meet your individual needs. Information is available in the form of leaflets, CDs, DVDs, videos and audio tapes on specific cancers including symptoms and side effects. Here you will also be able to find information on practical and emotional issues, including:
- How to cope with stress and anxiety
- How to manage fatigue and tiredness
- Travel insurance
- How to care for someone with cancer
- Help with discussing cancer with children
- Bereavement and understanding grief
Our Cancer Information Advisor, Catherine Anthony, and her team of volunteer helpers are on hand to provide any help or guidance you may need, or you are free to browse through the information available alone if you would prefer.
When you visit the Information Centre, you will find:
- A comfortable room where you can view, listen to or read the information you have found.
- Emotional support someone to listen to your worries in confidence.
- Guidance on what other support services are available.
- Support groups in your area and nationally.
- Guided internet access to some of our approved websites.
- Practical support how and where to get help with equipment and/or alterations to your home to help you live independently .

A 12-week programme of support and information following a diagnosis of cancer, in a group setting, designed to help patients live their life to the full. More Details .
Carers Course
This is a course for anyone caring or supporting someone with cancer. It is a 4-week programme, 2 hours in a morning or afternoon, in a group setting. It will cover information and advice for carers, families and friends. More Details .
Support Centre
Providing care and support on a weekly basis
Coffee Mornings
Drop in and chat with others who have been diagnosed with cancer.
Headways
A display of the alternatives available to wigs, including fringes, baseball caps, scarves and demonstrations of scarf tying.
Look Good...Feel Better
A beauty makeover session hosted by qualified beauticians who give advice on skin care and demonstrate how to apply the cosmetics in the gift bags given to you.
Welfare Advice Service
An advisor will be on hand Monday to Friday at different times to advise you on:
- Financial concerns
- What benefits are available to you
- Employment rights, whether you are employed or self employed
- Advice on all aspects of debt
- Housing problems

Complementary Therapies
Each Tuesday and Wednesday morning and all day Thursday, Radiotherapy patients and their carers can enjoy short sessions of complementary therapy, provided by therapists from the Cavendish Centre. The therapies on offer are:
- Aromatherapy
- Reflexology
- Massage
- Visualisation
- Hypnotherapy
A No-Smoking Policy is in operation at the Cancer Support Centre.
