Positive About Life

A Programme of Support and Information following a diagnosis of cancer designed and presented by health care professionals to help patients within a group setting live their life to the full.
  • This 12-week course has been designed to help you regain your confidence and courage following a diagnosis of cancer.     
  • It is held every Wednesday and Thursday from 10.30 am – 2.30 pm
  • The course is very informal and relaxed. 
  • You do not have to attend every session.  If you feel that only some of the topics would be of benefit to you, you are free to attend just for these sessions.
  • Most people refer themselves after reading our posters and leaflets.
  • The course is suitable for anyone, men and women.
  • You can join either before, during or after your treatment.  It is up to you when you feel you would gain the most benefit from becoming part of the group.

Topics covered on the course:

  • The signs and symptoms of stress and anxiety, and how to manage this.
  • Healthy Eating with advice from a dietician
  • How to manage fatigue and tiredness, how to maintain your energy levels.
  • Coping strategies – positive goal setting
  • How to talk about your illness to your friends and relatives including children
  • How to encourage sleep and relaxation
  • Getting the best from your consultations with professionals
  • Living your life and enjoying holidays with advice on insurance and travel
  • General exercise
  • Complementary therapies – finding the right treatment for you with guidance on how to choose a therapist
  • How to look after yourself
  • Your 'shout' - ask any question

The course is free and a 3-course lunch is provided for which we ask a small donation of £3.00

Carers Course

Weston  Park Cancer Information and Support Centre provides a 4-week programme especially designed to help you.   
 
Next course starts Wednesday 19th August 2009 2.00 pm  -  4.00 pm. Please telephone to book on the course  0114 2265666
 
In a relaxed, informal setting you will meet others in a similar situation to yourself, along with experienced health care professionals who will guide your discussion.
The sessions last about 2 hours, and there is plenty of time to ask questions, share your experiences and listen to the views of people who may be experiencing some of the same problems you are facing and help you find your way forward.
